Engagement

Trinity is engaged in our communities

At Trinity, Engagement means HELPING OTHERS

We strive to be a parish of action.  Through ministries like Vecinos Seguros, Thanksgiving dinners, contributing to local food banks, providing supplies to local schools, and other charitable efforts, we care for our neighbors with compassion and commitment.  Companionship is woven into our mission.

Frequently our engagement is in collaborative efforts.  Our collaborations take many forms.

Thanksgiving Dinner in North Canaan, collaborating with North Canaan churches to feed a free Thanksgiving dinner to 150 – 200

The Corner Food Pantry,  Trinity has for decades contributed food to the food pantry located at St. Mary’s Church in Lakeville known as the Corner Food Pantry.  Toward that end, a large wicker basket is kept in Walker Hall to collect donations.  Sometimes we hold a special drive to provide a boost to their supplies – we call it “Feed a Family of Four for a Day.” For such drives, families and individuals are asked to fill a grocery sack with non-perishables and bring them in for a special blessing.

Crop Walk    Our Team is “Trinity Lime Rock” and our walk is the Northwest Connecticut walk.  Join us!!  We’ve been involved in this Church World Services drive to end hunger for years — maybe decades!  In 2025 Team Trinity exceeded financial goals for funds raised, placing us in second place for this walk.  Trinity was first among teams pre-registered with 10 walkers pre-registered, and all appeared and walked at least part of the course, which extended via the Rail Trail from the Salisbury Congregational Church to Lakeville and return.  We appreciate the efforts of the Salisbury Congregationalists in organizing the walk; no small task as Trinity knows from the years when we ran it.

Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem  Our collaboration here is in the form of financial support for this Anglican Diocese operating in Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.  This geographic spread adds innumerable complications to the work of the Diocese due to the many borders, checkpoints, and national governments involved. In particular, the divergent laws and politics of each region make the administration of these ministries exceedingly challenging.  We are particularly interested in Al Ahli Hospital, the hospital that the Diocese operates in Gaza City.

Welcoming refugees here in the Northwest Corner (usually collaborating with local churches and other not for profit organizations).  In recent years we’ve been involved in welcoming families from Bosnia, Syria, and Ukraine to the Northwest Corner

Vecinos Seguros 2  We are a link in the chain of support for immigrants regardless of legal status.  We serve as financial fiduciary for this organization and provide meeting space and audio/video support.   Here’s a message from our friends at “VS2”

==Do You Know an Immigrant Family in Need?==
Vecinos Seguros 2 May Be Able To Provide Financial Assistance
Our good friends at Vecinos Seguros 2 are seeking to help local immigrant families impacted by ICE actions or otherwise in need. Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s newly launched Immigrant Support Fund for NW Litchfield County, VS2 can provide help with legal expenses or necessities like rent or groceries. Eligible families must live in one of the following towns: Canaan (Falls Village), Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, or Warren. Please help spread the word.
Email VecinosSeguros2@gmail.com or call Jill at 860-364-0362 for more information.

Thank Offerings, conducted by the young people.  The young people select their own beneficiary each year.  Current beneficiaries are public libraries in Sharon and Salisbury.  A previous beneficiary was the Little Guild of St. Francis.

Women’s AA  In recent years it’s become evident that for women, AA seems often to be more successful when limited to other women.  This program is both in-person and via Zoom

Habitat for Humanity  has been the recipient of Trinity support for many years.  Most recently we’ve been involved in building a Habitat house in Millerton, NY, now completed and occupied.

–When we have available clergy, Trinity has held weekly worship services at Noble Horizons, Geer Nursing, and Geer Lodge

Annual Outreach Brunch at Trinity.  This potluck lunch following a 10:30 AM service provides invited representatives of area not-for-profit organizations with an opportunity to tell the parish about their programs and meet interested parishioners.

At Trinity, ENGATEMENT means collaborating and supporting others

Lime Rock Park (our across-the-road neighbors) and Trinity have a long-standing relationship.  Our Rector has served as Chaplain for the track for many years, providing Invocations on major race days and offering clergy support in other ways.  This year the track management came to us with a request: Attendance for their return to hosting one part of the NASCAR Truck series would yield a multiple of their usual attendance, and parking would exceed the capacity of their own facility.  Could we park cars in our field that weekend?  Of course we could!   Trinity accommodated nearly 500 cars over the Friday and Saturday of the engagement, greeting and welcoming the race fans.  We would have parked more cars but we ran out of room!

Crescendo  Founded at Trinity more than 20 years ago by our Music Director, Crescendo offers professional level, community-involved  music in our area and beyond. Often Crescendo musicians augment our own choir for worship services

–Art Shows  For 75 years, Trinity has hosted art exhibitions in our Walker Hall, Guild Room, and annex.  See our Art Show page for more information.

–New York Cycle Club  Many years ago, on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, Trinity was humming with the Art Show open and a tag sale in progress when a number of – perhaps 40 — bicyclists rode up.  We did not know them, and they did not know us, but they were on a lengthy ride, one rider was having mechanical problems, and they were hot and tired and hungry.  We welcomed them and fed them – and they have been back virtually every Labor Day Saturday since.  Their annual visit has become a tradition at Trinity and 2025 kept the tradition intact.  We had a great event sharing Walker Hall & the Guild Room with the tag sale because the weather was raining—and still the cyclists came!

–Tree Lighting  For the past several years Trinity has lighted one of the large spruce trees in our yard for the holiday season to encourage our neighbors in Lime Rock.  This year, Perotti Tree Company handled the decorations using their bucket ladder, and it was illuminated at a ceremony November 29,  with carols by Trinity’s Choir, followed by hot chocolate and donuts.
