Engagement

Trinity is engaged in our communities

At Trinity, Engagement means HELPING OTHERS

We strive to be a parish of action.  Through ministries like Vecinos Seguros, Thanksgiving dinners, contributing to local food banks, providing supplies to local schools, and other charitable efforts, we care for our neighbors with compassion and commitment.  Companionship is woven into our mission.

Frequently our engagement is in collaborative efforts.  Our collaborations take many forms.

Thanksgiving Dinner in North Canaan, collaborating with North Canaan churches to feed a free Thanksgiving dinner to more than 200

The Corner Food Pantry, including an annual project called Feed a Family of Four for a Day

Crop Walk    Our Team is “Trinity Lime Rock” and our walk is the Northwest Connecticut walk.  Join us!!  We’ve been involved in this Church World Services drive to end hunger for years — maybe decades!

Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem  Our collaboration here is in the form of financial support for this Anglican Diocese operating in Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.  This geographic spread adds innumerable complications to the work of the Diocese due to the many borders, checkpoints, and national governments involved. In particular, the divergent laws and politics of each region make the administration of these ministries exceedingly challenging.  We are particularly interested in Al Ahli Hospital, the hospital that the Diocese operates in Gaza City.

Welcoming refugees here in the Northwest Corner (usually collaborating with local churches and other not for profit organizations).  In recent years we’ve been involved in welcoming families from Bosnia, Syria, and Ukraine to the Northwest Corner

Vecinos Seguros 2  We are a link in the chain of support for immigrants regardless of legal status.  We serve as financial fiduciary for this organization and provide meeting space and audio/video support.   Here’s a message from our friends at “VS2”

==Do You Know an Immigrant Family in Need?==
Vecinos Seguros 2 May Be Able To Provide Financial Assistance
Our good friends at Vecinos Seguros 2 are seeking to help local immigrant families impacted by ICE actions or otherwise in need. Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s newly launched Immigrant Support Fund for NW Litchfield County, VS2 can provide help with legal expenses or necessities like rent or groceries. Eligible families must live in one of the following towns: Canaan (Falls Village), Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, or Warren. Please help spread the word.
Email VecinosSeguros2@gmail.com or call Jill at 860-364-0362 for more information.

Thank Offerings, conducted by the young people.  The young people select their own beneficiary each year.  Current beneficiaries are public libraries in Sharon and Salisbury.  A previous beneficiary was the Little Guild of St. Francis.

Women’s AA  In recent years it’s become evident that for women, AA seems often to be more successful when limited to other women.  This program is both in-person and via Zoom

Habitat for Humanity  has been the recipient of Trinity support for many years.  Most recently we’ve been involved in building a Habitat house in Millerton, NY.

–When we have available clergy, Trinity has held weekly worship services at Noble Horizons, Geer Nursing, and Geer Lodge

Annual Outreach Brunch at Trinity.  This potluck lunch following a 10:30 AM service provides invited representatives of area not-for-profit organizations with an opportunity to tell the parish about their programs and meet interested parishioners.

At Trinity, ENGATEMENT means collaborating and supporting others
